Truth and the Heart

"When truth is brought home to the heart, they see that their lives are not in accordance with the will of God. They see the need of an entire change in themselves; but they are not willing to take up the self-denying work. Therefore they are angry when their sins are discovered. They go away offended, even as the disciples left Jesus, murmuring, 'This is an hard saying; who can hear it?'" (The Desire of Ages, p. 392).

-- (December 17, 2024): we published this morning and we have more material coming in near future. Obviously events have spiraled dramatically downward since the NAD voted to entirely resist the General Conference Compliance decision at Annual Council.

Conforming to the World

"All who exalt their own opinions above divine revelation, all who would change the plain meaning of Scripture to suit their own convenience, or for the sake of conforming to the world, are taking upon themselves a fearful responsibility" (The Great Controversy, p. 268).

A fair and open process

"I have heard the angst and emotional deep feeling by so many. I think we all hold these views rather strongly. But let me give you a very strong pastoral appeal. I believe we need to stay together as a church. We have had a fair and open process. Our real challenge for the future is to maintain a sweet spirit. On interpretive gymnastics…

"The historical-critical and higher critical methods of Biblical interpretation negatively affect a clear understanding of the themes and topics of the Bible. As we seek to know God’s will through a study of His Word, we must not place strange interpretations and employ interpretive gymnastics to draw out conclusions that are not evident from a plain reading of the word" (Ted N.C. Wilson, GC President, to 2014 Annual Council).

Our responsibility

"When the issue is truth, there is no such thing as anonymity.... As stewards of the mysteries of God it is our duty to affirm and sustain the biblical trajectory (and I'm borrowing a word there) of male headship/leadership in the home and in the church and not go beyond what is written in the Scripture.... It is our duty (and this is why we're here) as stewards of the mysteries of God to protect the church from a hermeneutical disaster. That's the bottom line. Amen" (C. Historical-grammatical method

"The Protestant Reformation would have been impossible apart from this change in the hermeneutics [away from the highly subjective allegorical/fourfold method] that was employed to interpret the Holy Scriptures of both Old and New Testaments. . . . Luther became the proponent of a methodology which in essence was the historical-grammatical method" ("The Presuppositions of the Historical-Grammatical Method as Employed by Historic Lutheranism," Raymond F. Surburg, The Springfielder, October 1974, p. 279).
