Secrets Unsealed October WO Symposium

News Release
Women’s Ordination Symposium: History, Issues and Implications
Live from Fresno, CA on October 1-4, 2014:
You are cordially invited to join us for the live streaming of “Women’s Ordination: History, Issues and Implications” live from Fresno, California.
The purpose of the symposium is to share, as far as possible, the Biblical foundation for male servant-leadership (‘headship’) in both the home and the church, and the reasons from both Scripture and the Spirit of Prophecy as to why women should not be ordained either to the gospel ministry or to the office of local church elder. The symposium will also highlight the value and roles of women in ministry and outline ways in which men and women can work together, within appropriate Biblical roles, to execute the spiritual and evangelistic mission of the great Advent movement.  This symposium will consist of 12 plenary sessions, three panel discussions and a concluding two-hour town hall meeting on Saturday evening.  All meetings except for Sabbath morning will be held at the Secrets Unsealed facility. The Sabbath morning meetings will be held at the Fresno Central SDA Church on 2980 E. Yale Ave., Fresno.
All other meetings will be held at the Secrets Unsealed studio.
Symposium Participants: Stephen Bohr, Laurel Damsteegt, Mario Veloso, John Peters, Ingo Sorke, Eugene Prewitt, Don Mackintosh, Jim Howard, Daniel Mesa, Dojcin Zivadinovic, Phil Mills, Isaac Olatunji, Julie Mesa, Raymond Holmes, and Kevin Paulson.

Women's ordination and congregationalism

Prs. Wayne Kablanow and Jim Brackett discuss women’s ordination. Is WO as we have seen its proponents attempting to introduce it to the church today, actually congregationalism just at a larger scale? Is letting each division decide independently in essence the same as letting each congregation decide independently? Kablanow and Brackett work their way into the topic carefully in this extended study. Unity in diversity is discussed. The core biblical components of unity are uncovered. 32 minutes. Pr. Kablanow is a successful church planter, presently serving West Plains in Airway Heights and also the Spokane North View churches.

Response to 'third position' video

Pr. Stephen Bohr of Secrets Unsealed Ministry responds point-by-point to the “hand-drawn”-style video presented by advocates of the “third way” position. (The third position arose at the end of the Theology of Ordination Study Committee (TOSC) process. It differs from “position 2” only in that it admits that “male leadership” is God’s ideal. However, this supposed recognition is meaningless since postion three, like position two, would allow each division of the world church to decide independently for itself whether or not to ordain women.)

WO: helping or hindering unity?

Don Mackintosh considers claims that women’s ordination came as new light to the Seventh-day Adventist Church 40 years ago and that in rejecting it, we are hindering the Second Coming. Pastor Mackintosh reviews the history and sees whether this is so. Is the push for women’s ordination helping us advance toward the Second Coming, or actually hindering us? Is the pro-women’s ordination movement helping or hindering the church toward unity? Pr. Don Mackintosh served on the General Conference Theology of Ordination Study Committee.

TOSC position 2 problems

Pastors Larry Kirkpatrick and Mike Lambert discuss TOSC outcomes. One group within TOSC, the “Position 2” group wants the church to permit individual divisions to make their own separate decisions about women’s ordination. The immediate result would be that some parts of the church would ordain women as pastors/elders, others not. In the TOSC Position 2 paper, WO advocates declared that the problems Paul is addressing in 1 Timothy were intended to deal with only local issues. The pastors zero-in on chapter two looking at the passage in the Greek NT, and the reason Paul DOES give for the general, universal prohibition against women exercising authority over men in a congregational setting.
