In December an important announcement was made by Amazing Facts. A book on Women’s Ordination published only weeks earlier was being released in electronic format for free distribution. Women’s Ordination, 31 Popular Arguments and Biblical Answers, is a short and sharable book by Eugene Prewitt that can be read in a couple hours and that has already turned the tide in minds of some who had been favoring the Ordination of woman. Prewitt is a member of the Theology of Ordination Study Committee.

How sad that the South Pacific Division has voted in favor of Women’s Ordination. Link is: http://record.adventistconnect.org/news_entries/5179
I personally believe that this is an issue that is going to split the church like never before and no one seems to even want to have a bible study to look at what the bible really says. People are dumbfounded when I say that I can’t believe the opposite of what you believe from the bible as one of us is wrong. Normally they just walk away.
How can we have what Jesus is asking for in John 17:20 – 23 if our beliefs are poles apart.
I believe we are coming into a time of testing like no other we have seen in our lives. Refer to what Mrs White says in GC pages 594-595: “God will have a people upon the earth to maintain the Bible, and the Bible only, as the standard of all doctrines and the basis of all reforms.”
Do we still believe in the Bible? Is 8:20 : “To the law & to the testimony! If they do not speak according to his word, it is because there is no light in them”
I am grateful to see that someone has taken the time to thoughtfully present a thorough Biblical response to an issue that is gaining more and more attention each day.
This will, as Brian Hull suggests, undoubtedly be one of the major elements of sifting and shaking among God’s church, but at the end of the day, we are driven by Biblical teachings and principles, not suppositions or customs.
I don’t understand why all a sudden people are getting all worked up over WO when we have had them since 1968. Why wasn’t there a riot a revolt then and threw her and who ever voted for her out the door ? I don’t believe it will split the church, why would it now when we have had them for 45 years ? It sounds to me like they are going to let the local church decide whether or not to have women elders therefore some churches will have them some will not. No big deal.Things will go on as usual just like they have for 45 years the only diff is now it will be a world wide acceptance of WO.
The problem is not that anti-WO folk are getting worked up all of a sudden… the problem is that pro-WO folk are creating problems where there were none before. Yes mistakes have been made in the past and yes rebellion has taken place in the past. Indeed no one has stood up for the right back then, but now these things are on a whole different level. Now pro-WO folk are subverting our entire platform of truth by adopting and advocating new hermeneutics from the critical branch instead of the grammatical, and openly and collectively rebelling against the GC.
Now pro WO-folk are fighting for acceptance of their opinions against the plain word of God, and THAT is something to be worried about. Indeed it is something we MUST stand up against.
No the church probably won’t disintegrate overnight if this gets accepted, but it is definitely a sign that we as a people are drifting farther and farther away from the Bible, while of course professing to hold on to it. (Laodicea anyone?)
There have been hundreds of pages written that explore what the Bible says. Careful Bible scholars have looked at the Word with different conclusions. The GC-TOSC papers are available for any who want to know both sides. I have read them all and drawn my conclusions. It would be easy for me to say that only those who made like conclusions are using good methods or faithful to follow the word. Yet it has always been true that different ones understand things differently. This could split us, but only if we let it. I for one think Acts 15 allows for wide variation of understanding of church structure. and I hope that solution will prevail.
Hello Sister DeeDee,
Have you read what Ellen White said on this issue? Please refer to 5T 617.1 to 618.2)
Whenever we study with those not of our faith to help them see that that the fallen churches have embraced error, we use the Bible examples given to us. For example, we look to the Bible to see what the scriptures say about the Sabbath day and not what it does not say. Sister White gave us counsel on this and can be found in 1SM Ch.29 (SIGNS OF THE TIMES, AUG 2, 1905) where she says:
“We are not to speculate regarding points upon which the Word of God is silent. All that is necessary for our salvation is given in the Word of God”
If we were to use the reasoning that since the Bible does not speak against WO and is silent on this, then could we use the same argument to baptize with sprinkling as opposed to full immersion? We both know the answer to that. We would follow the Bible example that God has given to us with respect to baptism and we must do the same for WO.
We have many wonderful God loving women among us who have brought many souls to Christ however there are certain functions performed by a Minister in the sacred desk that is to be performed by a QUALIFIED man of God.
I hope that helps Sister.
